New Reporting Requirement for Registered Lobbyists

In the 2013 legislative session, the legislature amended Government Code §305.005 to require additional disclosure on your lobby registration. You must now identify on your lobby registration each person who compensates or reimburses you (or a person acting as your agent) for your services from a political contribution, from interest received from a political contribution, or from an asset purchased with a political contribution. Note that this disclosure requirement applies to the compensation or reimbursement of “any service,” including political consulting services, regardless of whether the service is related to your activity as a lobbyist. This information must be disclosed for compensation or reimbursement received on or after September 1, 2013. To disclose this information for the 2013 calendar year, update your lobby registration. A new version of the electronic filing software has been released to allow for this new disclosure. If you have no additional information to disclose, you do not need to update your registration.
